Respiration 101

Updated: Aug 15, 2022

Since the steps included in CPR are the acronym ABC (Airway, Breathing, Circulation), the Respiratory Rate is one of the most important Vital Signs.

.............................. Above are normal respiratory rates

Abnormal respiratory rates include:

Tachypnea = A Rapid Respiratory Rate

Bradypnea = A Slow Respiratory Rate

Apnea = The Absence Of Breathing

Dyspnea = Difficult Or Labored Breathing

Orthopnea = Breathing Facilitated By Sitting Or Standing

Stertorous Or Stridor = Labored Noisy Harsh Or High Pitched Breathing

(P.S. You cannot count your own respiratory rate. You will subconsciously alter it. Have someone catch you off guard and count it for you for one full minute. One Inhale and One Exhale = 1 breath)⠀

..............................

If you are having abnormal respiratory rates look up POSSIBLE CAUSES of abnormal respiratory rates on the World Wide Web and CONSULT A PHYSICIAN FOR CONCRETE DIAGNOSIS AND POSSIBLE TREATMENTS
